InterLibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that allows NSU users to borrow books or obtain copies of articles from other libraries. If the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library does not own an item that you need for research, teaching, or study, you may request it through the ILL department.

Users may request the following items:

  • books/chapters
  • journal articles
  • newspaper articles
  • magazine articles.
  • Textbook requests are not accepted.

To request materials not owned by NSU

Click here to sign in to your library account using your full NSU email and your NSU password.

Click on the My account drop down menu, located in the upper right of your screen.

Select Requests.

Click on the Create request button.

Select the tab that best represents what you are requesting - if you are unsure if it is an article or a book, choose "other".

Fill in as much information as you know about the material as it will assist the librarian in locating it.

Fields marked with * must be completed.

In the About my request section you will need to choose your service type. Generally, if you are requesting an article or single chapter of a book, you'll want a copy. If you need a whole journal or book, choose loan. If you request a physical loan or copy, it will be available for pick up at the Information Desk of the Lyman Beecher Brooks Library on the NSU campus. Digital materials will be delivered to your library account.

Needed before refers to the date by which you must have the item. You will be contacted if the librarian is unable to meet this deadline.

Double check the information in the My address and contact information. If the librarian needs to contact you, they will use this information to do so.

Finally, click on the Submit request button. You will be returned to the main page where your request will now be visible.

Under the Status column, you can see where your request is in the process.

If you decide you no longer need the item, you can cancel it by clicking on the Request details link and then click on the Cancel request button.

It will ask you to confirm this cancellation.

If you cancelled the item in error, you can click on the Request again button.

Once the material is available, the status column will contain a link to the materials.

Request timeframe

Under normal circumstances, requests are generally processed within three days. Articles generally take between three to seven days and are delivered digitally. Physical books require more time as they are mailed to the NSU library from the loaning library.

Check out period

Usually, you may check out materials for at least a month. Some items may be checked out for shorter time frame depending on the loaning library's policies.
